5 Activities for Couples in Cork

Old, colorful buildings, seamlessly integrated with modern, glass structures. Picturesque bridges crossing the flowing River Lee. Parks and tree lined walking trails bringing nature to the city. A vibrant atmosphere due to the friendly, diverse groups of people who call it home. History pulsing at its core. Compact and easily traversed … though not so easily navigated. Delicious food, quality boutiques, and locally brewed pints. The result is uniquely Cork.

Whether you’re a visitor or a resident, there’s no shortage of things to do in Cork. With Valentine’s Day rapidly approaching, you may be thinking you want to extend the romance past flowers, chocolates, and dinner. Nothing says romance like quality time spent with a loved one. Here’s a short list of a few recommendations on activities you can do together.

Surprise that special someone and whisk them away on a mini adventure, just the two of you.

1. Taste the flavours.
Browse through the English Market. With stalls carrying fresh produce, artisan cheeses, homemade bread and tasty treats, along with dairy, meat and seafood, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Soak up the ambience, sample the goodies, and gather a selection to pack up a picnic. Head over to Fitzgerald Park where you can sprawl in the lush grass or rest on a bench to savor your food assortment. Afterwards, you can wander through the rose gardens, then venture over the Shaky Bridge and along the River Lee back towards the city. Stop off at Franciscan Well Brewery to sample a locally brewed craft beer.

2. Stroll through history.
Interested in the history surrounding the city and embedded in different landmarks? Spend an afternoon together journeying through the lively, charming streets of Cork City. The City Council have developed four different heritage trails, which are “free self guided walks consisting of interpretive panels with local historic information. There are also colour coded finger posts for guidance between the panels and a brochure with a map and description of sights along the way.”

3. Take in a show.
Cork is a city of culture that celebrates all forms of art. With venues such as the Everyman Theatre, Cork Opera House, and Triskel Arts Centre, there’s always a variety of shows on offer. From comedy to concerts, and dance performances to plays, there’s something for everyone. Together, enjoy the discovery of something new as the art stimulates all your senses.

4. Tap your foot to the music.
One of the most quintessentially Irish pastimes is the playing of, and listening to, traditional Irish music. Relax over a drink while you soak up the sounds. Or dance a jig together. Sin e is one of the most popular locales for live music. The small pub is guaranteed to awe you with the talent of the musicians and welcome you with warmth.

5. Escape with a romantic getaway.
Want a mini break away from the hustle and bustle of the city, or the stresses of everyday life? Grab your partner and journey to The Maryborough where you’ll be welcomed with friendly, professional staff and exceptional service. Allow us to shower you with luxury while you dine over a gourmet meal in Bellini’s Restaurant, unwind in Maryborough Spa, or relax in the outdoors surround by our 300 year old listed gardens.

“Love and time; those are the only two things in all the world and all of life that cannot be bought, but only spent.” ~Gary Jennings
